To The Editor:

Michelle Embree Ku will bring the leadership, integrity, experience, and commitment we need to best represent Newtown’s 106th District in Hartford.

During the past 12 years, our community has been extremely fortunate to benefit from Michelle’s leadership on the Board of Selectmen, Legislative Council, Board of Education, and as part of several problem-solving teams serving the state of Connecticut. Michelle has consistently demonstrated a determination to gather, understand, and share relevant information and data to evaluate complex problems. She gives patient, careful, and respectful consideration of all sides of an issue; and she is very approachable and responsive to questions and concerns.

As our representative in Hartford, Michelle will advocate for smart development in our community that protects the health of our environment, and for more inclusive, affordable, and accessible housing. She will fight for improving the health insurance marketplace, quality hospitals, access to reproductive healthcare, and reducing gun violence. Michelle will continue to work to improve education for our children through better air quality in our schools, learning that leads to opportunities, and special education funding.

Michelle will bring a much-needed new voice to Hartford — she will listen to us, work to find consensus, and advocate for solutions based on shared values, to move Newtown forward.
