Nine small wooden boxes of figured wood created by carpenter and writer Tim Snyder are now on exhibit at the showcase within Newtown Municipal Center.

The Municipal Center Art Gallery and Showcase is open weekdays between 8 am and 5 pm, and open late when town boards and commissions have meetings within the building. The Art Gallery and Showcase are managed by Newtown Cultural Arts Commission.

Snyder’s work will be in the showcase through October.

A Newtown resident, Snyder is the former executive editor of Fine Woodworking and the co-author, with Norm Abram, of the New Yankee Workshop books. He is also the author or editor of 12 additional carpentry project books released both by Taunton Press and Rodale Publishing.

His newly published novel, The Carpenter, is available on Amazon. The book is a coming-of-age story that weaves carpentry skills and terminology within an inspiring and fulfilling story.

In the spring Snyder taught a basic carpentry course through Newtown Parks and Recreation.

“It was extra special to see mother-daughter and father-son duos working together,” he noted about the course. “Building future woodworkers. I hope I can keep doing this.”

His blog about his carpentry is available at timcanfixit.wordpress.com.

He gives credit to working with his grandfather on a farm his grandfather managed for his ability to combine writing and carpentry.

“He had a can-do spirit,” Tim has said of his grandfather. “He knew how to fix everything and it kind of stuck with me.”
