Helen Szamotula
Helen Pritz Szamotula, 87, of Sandy Hook died peacefully October 8 at Connecticut Hospice of Branford, surrounded by her loving family. Her loved ones say God took her to heaven after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter S. Szamotula. Born on February 15, 1930, in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late John and Paulina Kloczko Pritz and was raised in the south end of Bridgeport on an estate at Seaside Park.
Mrs Szamotula graduated from Bassick High School and Butler Business School. She was employed at General Electric in Bridgeport and the Fairfield headquarters for more than 35 years, retiring as a secretary and administrative assistant.
She enjoyed traveling in the United States and Europe, taking cruises. She loved shopping, gardening, sewing, baking, crossword puzzles, bingo, and especially spending time with her family and friends.
Her three loving daughters and their husbands, Diane and Kenneth Medoff of Trumbull, Christine and Donald Blomberg of Shelton, and Pamela and Stephen Midlik of Sandy Hook; a brother, Edmund Pritz, and his wife Suzanne, of Florida; grandchildren, Shannon Blomberg, Sangita Malholtra Blomberg, Erica Hall and her husband Jonathan, Kristen Medoff, Danielle Medoff, Katie Midlik, and Christina "Nina" Midlik; and six great-grandchildren survive Mrs Szamotula.
Two cherished grandsons, Stephen W. Midlik and James D. Blomberg; as well as three brothers, Edward, Sigmond, and John Pritz, predeceased her.
Friends may greet the family on Friday, October 13, from 4 to 8 pm, at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
Friends are invited to meet directly in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield, on Saturday, October 14, at 9 am, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.
