Raccoon Tests Positive For Rabies

A raccoon that bit a woman on Huntingtown Road Sunday, October 1, has tested positive for rabies.

The town’s health district announced the results earlier this week after receiving word from the state’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

The incident occurred in the early morning hours when the woman, visiting from out of town, entered a dark barn. Unaware of the raccoon’s presence, the woman accidentally stepped on the sickly animal.

The raccoon was killed within moments of the incident.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported the woman to Danbury Hospital.
