HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania - The Newtown Nightmare won the Columbus Day Classic Tournament this weekend in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, convincingly winning all four games in the round robin format, surrendering only two goals.

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania – The Newtown Nightmare won the Columbus Day Classic Tournament this weekend in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, convincingly winning all four games in the round robin format, surrendering only two goals.

In the opener, the Nightmare defeated Absecon, New Jersey, 4-2. Chelsea Morin and Alex Helfer scored two goals apiece while Kelley Haines and Erin O’Dell played well in the defensive zone. Brittany Meier, Sarah Wallace, and Caitlyn Weber played well in the midfield.

In the second game, the Nightmare turned back a physical Quakertown, Pennsylvania team with a score of 2-0. Morin scored both goals on assists from Carrie Lipnick and Becky Corrigan. Kim Allen recorded the first of her three shutouts.

In the third game, the Nightmare dispatch Oak Hill, Virginia, 3-0 on a rain-soaked field. Lipnick scored off a corner to start Newtown off and then Morin and Helfer followed in the second half with goals. Kaitlyn Murphy, Samantha Levin and Kristi Johnston were superb in the midfield, controlling the tempo of the game.

In the fourth game, the Nightmare slipped and slided their way to a 2-0 tournament-clinching victory over Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Helfer and Morin scored the goals while Kelly Collier and Julie Hunter controlled the midfield. Kate Fenton was outstanding at marking back.
