To Save The GOP — Vote Blue
To The Editor:
The Grand Old Party has been taken over by Trump, a sociopathic egomaniac and his MAGA minions. Some on the right have embraced a populist-nationalist streak that has courted some of the darkest forces in American politics. Neo-Nazis, White Christian Nationalists, once shunned by party leaders are now finding a home as Trump supporters. Admission is easy — just praise the dear leader. To distract from this, Trump & Co refer to their opponents as Communists and the enemy of the people that he will prosecute if re-elected.
Contempt for democratic institutions and love of autocratic leaders are becoming common talking points on the right. The hate filled, fearmongering rhetoric from Trump is anti-semitic, racist, misogynistic, xenophobic, homophobic, and disparages people with disabilities, including veterans. Trump demonizes anyone who does not shower him with praise.
Trump lies non-stop. He refuses to admit that he lost in 2020; he and his sycophants continue to spread falsehoods about Haitian immigrants in Ohio, and his latest hits are that the Biden/Harris administration are diverting funds from FEMA and that Democrats are behind the assassination attempts.
Only one party is advocating for violence if they lose in November. Trump is riling up his supporters ahead of the election, just as he did in 2016 and 2020 claiming, without any proof, that everything is rigged against him. There is nothing he would like more than to see rioters in every State Capital and in D.C.
What does the silence from elected Republicans mean? They agree with Trump. They are afraid to speak up against his crazy, increasingly demented ramblings. They are just appeasing him and secretly hope he will lose. It does not really matter. The only way to turn the GOP back into a sane political entity is to defeat Trump and his supporters up and down the ballot. VOTE BLUE.
