Trails promote physical activity, fitness, and health. Studies in association with The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicate that 64 percent of the US population is clinically overweight, with more than 31 percent considered obese.

This condition is directly tied to lack of physical activity resulting in increased heart disease, cancer, diabetes, anxiety, depression, and other costly health problems. Regular physical activity can lower rates of obesity and health care costs.

Paula Burton, a member of the Newtown Trails Committee, will be leading trail building sessions at Pole Bridge Preserve for two upcoming weekends. The public is invited to join Ms Burton on Saturday, October 13, and/or Saturday, November 9. Trail building will be ongoing from 9 to 11 am each day.

Tools will be provided. Wear sturdy shoes and bring work gloves.

Volunteers should be at least age 10, and all children must be accompanied by parents. Bring water and snack.

Bad weather cancels.

Those wishing to volunteer are asked to contact Ms Burton at least the day before the sessions, to confirm and get directions, at or 203-733-2963.peburton@aol.com
