To the Editor:
Election day is near!
When looking at the choices of who will best represent the interests and values of Newtown and Monroe residents as state representative in the 112th District, there is only one clear and proven choice. DebraLee Hoveyâs six-year record in the state House of Representatives is one that clearly demonstrates a devotion to our community and a quest to make Connecticut a better place to live. I personally know her as never-ending source of positive energy, capable of running circles around the Energizer Bunny.
DebraLee has already proven herself a first-class legislator. Throughout her tenure, she has been an effective advocate for legislation allowing towns to maintain their rural character, something extremely important as developers seek to build upon every piece of available land in our region.
As a leader on the Legislatureâs Education Committee, DebraLee has successfully fought this year to postpone the imposition of state in-school suspension laws and had this legislation postponed, saving our towns the cost of implementing yet another unfunded state mandate.
Anyone who has spent time in the 112th and reads The Bee knows how active DebraLee is in making our community a âbrighterâ place. The ceremony she organized this spring honoring local veterans for their service and presenting them with new State of Connecticut Veterans Medal was fantastic, paying a well-deserved tribute to those who have sacrificed so much for our nation. She is also clearly someone who âgoes to batââ for us in Hartford and has secured grants for much-needed local projects.
DebraLee Hovey has overwhelmingly demonstrated her dedication to our town and its residents and has clearly earned our support on November 4.
Please to get out and vote. If you will be away from home on the day of this important election, as I will be, remember to contact Town Clerk Debbie Aureliaâs office to make arrangements to vote âabsentee.â
Sincerely,
Mitch Bolinsky
