The Horrors Of The Khmer Rouge
The Horrors Of The Khmer Rouge
DANBURY â Loung Ung, the author of First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers, will share her account of surviving the Khmer Rouge at 5 pm on Wednesday, October 22.
Ms Ungâs lecture will be in the Western CT State University Student Center Theater, 181 White Street (Route 6)
In the introduction to her book, Ung writes, âFrom 1975 to 1979 â through execution, starvation, disease, and forced labor â the Khmer Rouge systematically killed an estimated two million Cambodians, almost a fourth of the countryâs population. This is a story of survival: my own and my familyâs. Though these events constitute my experience, my story mirrors that of millions of Cambodians. If you had been living in Cambodia during this period, this would be your story too.â
The lecture will be free and open to the public. A reception will follow.
