Blackinton Smith

Avid Golfer

For Many Years

Suzanne Blackinton Smith, 84, died October 3 in Bridgewater, with her children at her side. She was born in Attleboro, Mass., to Shirley and Ruth (Fowler) Blackinton. She was the wife for 61 years of the late Roswell “Duke” Smith.

Mrs Smith is survived by her children and their spouses, Thomas H. and Annie Smith of Newtown, Susan and Denny Galvin of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Pocasset Mass., and Carolyn and Robert Hacker of Bridgewater; grandchildren, Jennifer Gattie, Jaclyn Gattie, Andrew, Brian, Jason, and Daniel Smith; great-grandchildren Bram and Major Gattie, and Aaliya Smith; nephew Michael Specht; and nieces Janet Trudell and Shirley Pierce. She was predeceased by her sister Priscilla Specht.

A 1942 graduate of Attleboro High School, she attended LaSalle Junior College. She lived in Attleboro until moving to North Falmouth, then to Southport in Mashpee. In 2007 she moved to her daughter’s home in Bridgewater.

An avid golfer, Mrs Smith was a Women’s Club Champion at Highland Country Club in Attleboro and was an active golfing member at Pocasset Golf Club until 2000. Over the years she also enjoyed tennis, skiing, bowling, bridge, and knitting.

 A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 11, at Bridgewater Congregational Church, at 10:30 am. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Milford VNA-Hospice, 68 Park Lane, New Milford CT 06776.
