Sculpture Barn Selected

To Host KMAA 2008 Juried Exhibition

NEW FAIRFIELD — In an effort to accommodate the sculptural form, the Katonah Museum Artists’ Association (KMAA) has selected New Fairfield’s Sculpture Barn as the site for its annual 2008 Juried Exhibition.

KMAA serves a membership of 300 artists who reside in the tri-state area. Association president Dyan Rosenberg is pleased by “the wonderful opportunity for the KMAA to exhibit in a high-quality gallery. If you write a symphony and no one hears it, it’s missing a part of its life. Every year, we give our membership an opportunity [to have their works ‘heard’].”

The exhibition will open Sunday, October 12, with an artists’ reception from 3 to 6 pm, and will run through Sunday, November 2.

This year, KMAA invited painter and fine arts Professor Vincent Baldassano, and award-winning sculptor and Sculpture Barn founder David Boyajian to serve as jurors. Mr Baldassano has exhibited worldwide, receiving accolades for his painting and mixed-media work. He currently teaches at the National Academy Museum in New York City and at Gateway Community College in New Haven. Represented in numerous public, corporate and private collections, Mr Baldassano has been recognized by the New York State Council on the Arts and received a SUNY Painting Fellowship.

David Boyajian ran the sculpture department at Silvermine School of Art in New Canaan for 20 years prior to becoming the co-founder of Sculpture Barn, where his hands-on classes have launched many emerging artists. He also teaches studio art at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury and at Norwalk Community College. Mr Boyajian has been awarded numerous public, corporate, and private commissions throughout the region.

The work of over 50 KMAA artists from Westchester, Putnam, and Duchess Counties, as well as from New York City and Fairfield County have been selected by Mr Baldassano and Mr Boyajian for the show. They reviewed more than 250 entries. Visitors will find works in bronze, steel, fiber, oil, acrylic, and watercolor, as well as digital media.

The KMAA periodically presents juried and independently curated exhibitions of the finest work by its membership. The Katonah Museum of Art also presents a triennial juried exhibition open to members of the association and other artists in the tri-state area.

Sculpture Barn, a self-supporting art center located at 3 Milltown Road (at the intersection of Route 39) on the New Fairfield/Danbury town line, is open Wednesdays through Sundays, noon to 6 pm. Admission is free.
