âSandwich Generationâ
Seminar Focus On Aging Parents
SOUTHBURY â The public is invited to reserve a place at a free seminar on issues faced by adult children of aging parents. âPlanning for the Future with Our Aging Parents: a Dine and Learn Seminar for the Sandwich Generationâ will be held from 5:30 to 7 pm, Wednesday, October 29, at The Jewish Federation, 444 Main Street North (Route 6).
This program is jointly sponsored by Brownstein Jewish Family Service and The Village at Brookfield Common in Brookfield
The term âsandwich generationâ has been used to describe a growing segment of the baby boomer generation who feel squeezed between the needs of their aging parents and the demands of their own children, spouses, and careers.
A panel of experts will offer tips and practical tools to help adult children make sound decisions about their aging parents. Sara Bilik, senior director, community relations, Benchmark Assisted Living, will moderate the panel discussion.
Panel members include: Joan Garbow, LCSW, geriatric care manager; Julia Brown, Esq, elder care attorney; Monika Westerdal-Midkiff, director of the Lighthouse Club for mild cognitive impairment at The Village at Brookfield Common; and Sara Bilik, senior director, community relations, Benchmark Assisted Living
Attendees will learn how to have a meaningful discussion with parents about aging and when to make the move to senior living. They will also learn to recognize forgetfulness and dementia and what to do about it. Other topics include wills, power of attorney, and health care proxy.
The program is free and open to the public. Dinner will be served.
Space is limited, and RSVPs are required by calling The Village at Brookfield Common at 775-8696.
