For BOE, PBSC Openings
The Republican Town Committee is seeking to meet with individuals interested in considering filling a vacancy on the Board of Education and Public Building and Site Commission for an alternate.
According to Barbara OâConnor, Republican Candidates Committee chairman, the Public Building and Site Commission has control of supervision and construction of building projects including major new construction, alteration or extension, furnishing or equipping of a building to be used for public purposes, including the acquisition and improvement of land thereto and with improvements, if any.
A member should have training or experience in matters pertaining to building design, construction, or contractual instruments.
The Newtown Charter state that the seven members of the Board of Education are âcharged with maintaining good public elementary and secondary schools and such other educational activities as in its judgment will best serve the interests of the Town and shall have all other powers and duties of boards of education prescribed by this Charter and by the General Statutes.â
