World War II Veteran

Joseph J. DellaCorte of Monroe died October 3 at St Vincent’s Medical Center after a short illness. He was surrounded by his loving family, who held his hands until the Lord took his soul home. He was born July 23, 1925, in Jersey City, N.J., to Frank and Mary (Varriano) DellaCorte.

He is survived by his beloved wife Gloria of Monroe; cherished children, Richard and Melissa of Newtown, Robert and Karen of Shelton, and Ken of Monroe, and his five beautiful grandchildren Michael, Kristen, Arianna, Aidan, and Addison. He is also survived by his most precious sisters, Ceil Crawford of Palm City, Fla., Marjorie Litcholt of Neptune City, N.J., and Louise Porcelli and Pete of Iselin, N.J.; as well as many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his sister Edith Benson Payton.

 He graduated from Seton Hall University in 1952, was a veteran of World War II, and held a variety of positions at United Parcel Service’s Manhattan and Greenwich headquarters for 31 years, retiring in 1987.

The family would like to thank all those who provided care to Joseph in his final weeks.

Visitation was scheduled for Thursday, October 9, from 4 to 8 pm at Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, October 10, at 11 am at St Stephen Roman Catholic Church in Trumbull, followed by interment in Resurrection Cemetery in Newtown.

 In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St Stephen Roman Catholic Church in Trumbull, the American Cancer Society, or the charity of one’s choice.
