Hospital Expands

Farmers’ Market

DERBY — Griffin Hospital’s Farmers’ Market, now in its second year of operation, announces the addition of several new vendors. The weekly event will continue on Fridays from 2 to 6 pm.

The Farm, of Woodbury, brings a large selection of fresh vegetables and beautiful plants and flowers.

Shelton-based Stockbridge’s brings a variety of breads and cookies, along with its famous cheesecakes, and joining the market beginning this Friday is Shepherd Diary Farm, which grows 51 varieties of heirloom tomatoes, samples of which are available at the market.

The farmers’ market is part of the hospital’s wellness program and was created two years ago in an effort to make locally grown produce easily available to employees and the hospital community, while at the same time supporting the local farming community.

The market is located right outside the hospital’s main entrance, 130 Division Street. Anyone stopping by the hospital cafeteria at lunchtime on Fridays can enjoy a featured taste testing and pick up some new recipes. Contact Beth Comerford 203-732-1265 for additional information.
