Hardworking Volunteers

Thank A Firefighter

To the Editor:

On behalf on the Middle School Youth Advisory Board I would like to offer our thanks to Bill McAllister of the Newtown Hook and Ladder Fire Company. This week is National Fire Prevention Week, and Mr McAllister attempted, with very short notice, to put together a program for the MS YAB meeting last week. Things fall as they do and, ultimately, we were unable to make it work. Despite not hearing directly from a fireman the YAB designed a poster to honor these hardworking men and women.

However, while recognizing the efforts of this particular fireman, I would be remiss not to offer thanks to all Newtown’s firefighting and ambulance volunteers. Through their efforts, countless hours and thousands of dollars are saved because they donate their time. I am certain that we have no concept just how much time and energy is given back to the town because of their dedication and commitment to helping others.

For many years there has been a saying in Newtown, and that is, “It’s Nicer in Newtown.” These many men and women are shining examples of why that is so.

Gratefully,

Roseanne G. Loring

Program and Parent Education Coordinator, NYS

Advisor, MS YAB
