Opportunities For Poets

Poeticas, a journal featuring the work of Connecticut poets, is seeking well-crafted poetry on any theme for publication.

Work in any form or style is accepted, especially lyrical free verse poetry and poems reflecting feminist and/or ecological perspectives. Previously published poetry and simultaneous submissions are accepted; writers are asked to include information regarding previous publications with their submissions.

Submissions are read year round. Writers may submit up to three poems at a time. Poems should not be more than one page each; shorter poems are preferred. The writer’s name and address should appear in the upper right hand corner of each page.

Notification is within six months. Include self-addressed stamped envelope with all correspondence. Work should be sent to Poeticas editor Barbara Douglas, c/o Poeticas Press, 11 Victoria Drive, Guildford, CT 06437.

Subscriptions to Poeticas are available for $5 per year. Checks for subscriptions should be made payable to Barbara Douglas, with “Poeticas” noted on the memo line.

The second opportunity for publication comes from Northground Press. In conjunction with The Cape Cod Poets Theatre, Northground is currently accepting submissions for the second issue of CapePoet, the literary journal of social consciousness for Cape Cod. The theme of the issue is battered women and women’s survival issues concerning domestic violence and other women’s issues.

There is no limit on length of works; the concern is more on quality of writing. Deadline is Dec 25. Submissions should be emailed directly to capepoet@hotmail.com.

Finally, The National Poetry League will be holding auditions on Saturday, October 21, from 10 am to 4 pm. The try-outs will be at 128 Chambers St at West Broadway, second floor, in New York City.

The group is looking for poets to participate on a television pilot where all-poet teams will create poems collaboratively and improvisationally in a faux game show setting. The show is being pitched to The Comedy Channel, so funny and kinetic and the poetic tone.
