Mother Daughter Book Club: The C.H. Booth Library is pleased to offer a series of Mother-Daughter book discussions, âPower Talks II, Courage Under Fire,â for girls in grades 3-4. . The second book in this four-part series is Love You, Soldier by Amy Hest. Multiple copies of the book are available in the childrenâs department. The discussion will take place on Wednesday, October 25 at 7 pm in the library meeting room. This program is co-sponsored by the Connecticut Humanities Council and the Friends of the Library. Pat Miniter, a 31- year veteran of New Haven school system, will lead the discussions.
First Author/Illustrator Visit: The Bruce Degan fund for visiting authors and illustrators will sponsor a program by author Stepahnie Calmenson on Sunday, October 15, at 2 pm. The author of more than 50 books for children, including the popular Gator Girls series and Dinner at the Panda Palace, Ms Calmenson will present a funny and informative slide presentation, âA Day in the Life of a Childrenâs Book Writer.â Following the program Ms Calmenson will autograph copies of her books. (These are available for purchase on the day of the presentation.)
 Story Hour Registration: Register for the next series of story hours for two year olds and 3-5 year olds beginning October 23. Participants must be 2 or 3 years of age before November 6. Registration continues through October 31. Forms are available in the childrenâs department. No phone registrations will be accepted. For more information concerning childrenâs programs call 426-3851.
Adult Programs
Mystery Lovers! The Friends of the Library are sponsoring an exciting new book discussion series. The series will continue on Tuesday, October 24, with Ill Wind by Nevada Barr, and on November 7, One for the Money by Janet Evanovich. A limited number of copies of all titles are available at the library. You can come to one or all of the discussions. Please sign up at the circulation desk or by calling the library at 426-4533.
Yoga with Ricky Ayers: Yoga continues at the library with Ricky Ayers on Thursdays in October from 4:45-6 pm in the meeting room. Please call Ricky at 262-8721 to sign up for this program.
Retirement Investment Strategies: Joan Bouchard, CLU and ChFC, will conduct an educational workshop on retirement investment strategies on Thursday, October 12, at 6 pm in the Board Room of the C.H. Booth Library. Come learn how to calculate the cost of your retirement and understand various tax laws with regards to your investments. There is no fee for the workshop but you should call to reserve a seat and free workbook at 797-1203.
Technology Topics with Bob Brand: A beginnerâs class, âAll About E-Mail,â will take place on Saturday, October 14, from 10 am to 12 pm in the meeting room. This class will review some Internet basics and then show you how to start using e-mail. There is no charge for this program, but sign-up is required at the circulation desk or by calling the library at 426-4533.
Calling all Knitters: Susan Shaw will be teaching a beginnerâs knitting class for four consecutive Wednesdays starting on October 18, at 12:15 pm. Knitters will learn how to make mittens. Supplies needed for first class will be either size 8 (adult) single-pointed needles or size 10 (child) single-pointed
needles, a yarn needle, two yarn holders, and 4 oz of worsted weight yarn. Please sign up at the circulation desk by calling 426-4533.
Book Discussion: The Awakening: On Thursday, October 19, at 7:30 pm the book group will meet to discuss Kate Chopinâs classic novel, The Awakening. Please join us for lively discussion.
Flagpole Photographers: The Flagpole Photographers Camera Club is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping photographers of all levels learn more about photography. Meetings feature guest speakers, monthly photo competitions, field trips, and workshops. At the October 19 meeting Richard Maggs will be the featured speaker. The monthly subject will be nature slides. The program is scheduled to begin at 7:30 pm in the meeting room.
