(The following letter to the members of Newtown Look & Ladder has been received for publication.)

Dear Chief and Members of NH&L

On behalf of the Town & Country Garden Club, a big thank you for the many times throughout the summer your members watered the three traffic islands in the borough that our club plants and maintains.

As you know, our members must transport water from their homes to water two of the three islands. And while the third has a hose hook-up that spans Queen Street, it was difficult to keep such a large area sufficiently watered given the heat and drought. The plantings that are so appreciated by the townspeople certainly would not have survived without the deep watering you were able to supply. 

To show our appreciation, this year, Town & Country Garden Club will donate 50 percent of the proceeds of the sale of our pumpkin flower arrangements at the Lions Club Great Pumpkin Race to Newtown Hook & Ladder; the other 50 percent will be donated to the Lions.
