'Empowering Smart Online Choices,' Tuesday Evening
The school district’s PTAs, PTSA, and the Newtown Prevention Council are sponsoring a presentation by Scott Driscoll for local parents on Tuesday, October 13, from 7 to 8:30 pm, at Newtown Middle School.
The presentation is called “Empowering Smart Online Choices,” and it will be held in the middle school’s auditorium.
Mr Driscoll is a former youth officer and member of the federal Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, with more than 23 years of law enforcement and child safety advocacy behind him. He created his company, Internet Safety Concepts, to educate parents and students about social media, cyberbullying, and the long-term impacts of posting potentially sensitive content to websites, apps, and by text.
Attendees will learn to navigate popular social media apps, like Instagram, Snapchat, and Vine, and they will learn how to safely manage online activity.
Mr Driscoll is also slated to give presentations at Newtown Middle School and Reed Intermediate School for students during his visit to Newtown.
