To the Editor:

The Newtown Community Center Commission’s survey closes this Saturday, October 10, at midnight! Please take the five-minute survey today! Go to www.ncccsurvey.com.

As you may know, GE has donated $10 million to Newtown as a result of the 12/14 tragedy (plus a $1 million annual grant over five years) to create a facility that acts as an anchor for the people of Newtown to come together — a “hub.” The money must be used to create a location that does not exist today, cannot duplicate existing programs or services, and serves the needs of the entire community as best as possible.

The Newtown Community Center Commission (NCCC) is looking for feed-back from all residents on how to best use the General Electric (GE) gift in creation of a center that best serves and inspires our town. Please take the survey or consider one of these other options to inform the commission of your thoughts/ideas/comments/suggestions:

*E-mail them (all e-mails are located on the Town’s main website under “Boards & Commissions” then “Community Center Commission”),

*Attend regular meetings and comment during the two public participation opportunities (all meetings are public),

*Attend the remaining two public forums (details below).

The remaining two public forums will take place next week:

October 13 (Tuesday) at the Multipurpose/Senior Center 14 Riverside Road, Sandy Hook from 7 pm.

October 17 (Saturday) in the Olga Room at C.H. Booth Library from 10 am.

Once all the input is tabulated, it will help to give the commission directional information/guidelines on what residents would like to see in the center.

Past NCCC meeting dates, minutes and videotapes can be found on the Town’s website (newtown-ct.gov/Public_Documents/index)
