I read with interest Bill Brimmer’s recent letter to the editor [Letter Hive, “What The GOP Has Already Done,” 10/2/09]. I think he is a good public servant, who most recently served the town for six years as a minority selectman under the Rosenthal administration.

Credit should be given, however, where credit is due and I believe that most of what he cites as Republican accomplishments sprung from a spirit of bipartisanship, if not nonpartisanship. For half my term on the council, Democrats and Republicans have had equal representation. Luckily, and for the good of the town, most of us who have served, forget the party label and act in what we believe is in the town’s best interest. Not surprisingly, we don’t always agree. Rarely, if ever, were disputes along party lines.

In my view, much of what Bill touts as Republican accomplishments could be equally claimed by the Democrats. The important thing is, we achieved those things together.
