Daria Rabotikina is a pianist with clearly prodigious musical gifts. An insightful, interpretively adventurous artist, capable of delivering exquisite music with breakneck virtuosity and sterling technique, she remains sensitive to each composer’s individual subtleties.

Newtown Friends of Music will open their 32nd second season with Ms Rabotkina performing on the stage at Edmond Town Hall on Sunday, October 18, at 3 pm.

Ms Rabotkina was born in Kazan, Russia, into a family of musicians. She gave her first solo recital at the age of ten. Her first musical steps were guided by her parents, both outstanding pianists, and Nora Kazachkova at the Special Music School in Kazan.  She earned bachelor’s and master’s of music degrees from Mannes College of Music in New York City, where she studied with Vladimir Feltsman and was coached by Leon Pommers, Pamela Frank, Todd Phillips, Timothy Eddy and Jacob Lateiner.  She has participated in master classes with Earl Wild, Edward Aldwell, Eteri Andjaparidze, Andras Schiff and Richard Goode. Ms Rabotkina is currently pursuing a doctorate from the Eastman School of Music under the tutelage of Natalya Antonova, where she is a Liberace Scholar.

Ms Rabotkina has garnered competition prizes at major competitions and festivals around the world. Her burgeoning career has already led to solo appearances with the San Francisco and New World Symphonies under the baton of Michael Tilson Thomas and with the Kirov Orchestra and Valery Gergiev in a four concert North American tour.

This season she will return for the third time as concerto soloist with the Winnipeg Symphony and she will also celebrate debut concerto performances with Harrisburg Symphony and Orchestra London of Canada.

In recital she performs at Merkin Hall in NYC, as well as in nine other cities across the US, and she recently recorded her debut recital disk, featuring the Tchaikovsky Grand Sonata and Prokofiev’s Suite from Romeo and Juliet which will also be on the program at the Newtown concert.  Also on the Newtown program will be various selections by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Tickets for October 18 are $20, although students K-12 are admitted free of charge when accompanied by a ticket-holding adult.  The box office will open one hour before the start of the concert. Advance reservations are strongly recommended.
