Local Spa Changing Hands After Two Decades

Avancè Esthètiques Day Spa, located in Sand Hill Plaza on South Main Street, announced a change of ownership effective September 1. The new owner, Melanie Allen, is a Newtown High School graduate, currently residing in Woodbury.

The highly regarded day spa has been owned and operated for the past 20 years by Judy Volpe of Southbury.

“The spa has enjoyed a 20-year operating history and is a well-established leader in the region,” Ms Allen said. “Our staff is known for offering superior service and quality attention, and our longtime clients attest to the high standards established by Ms Volpe.”

The Allen family resided on Hall Lane for more than 20 years. A brother, Jim Allen, is the founder of The Newtown Music Workshop and also serves as musical director for the popular Flagpole Radio Café program sponsored by the Newtown Cultural Arts Commission.

Ms Allen’s mother, Fran, was a realtor at the McCulloch Agency and her father, Peter, served on various town boards during their residency. Ms Allen most recently worked as co-founder and administrative director for GenCell Corporation, a Southbury-based renewable energy company.

Avancè Esthètiques offers therapeutic spa treatments and related products for both men and women and is staffed by 15 professional estheticians, massage therapists, and nail technicians. Services include many types of massage, facials, body treatments, hydrotherapy, and nail care.

The spa also carries exclusive product lines such as Credentials Skin Care, Jane Iredale Cosmetics, The Thymes Ltd, and OPI, as well as organic teas and candles.
