Dr John R. Lyddy

Respected And Loved By All

John R. Lyddy, MD, 90, beloved husband of Helen C. Lyddy, died October 3, at Bridgeport Hospital, with his family by his side. Born in Bridgeport, he was the son of Lauretta C. Lyddy and John A. Lyddy.

He is survived by five children, including Paula Newberry and husband, Dawson, of Newtown; five grandchildren; a brother; and a large adoring extended family.

A World War II veteran, he served as Naval officer in all theaters; additionally he was promoted to lieutenant commander during the Korean Conflict.

He practiced general medicine in Bridgeport and established a private practice in Stratford. He served at Bridgeport Hospital for many years and was also on faculty at Yale New Haven and Bridgeport Hospitals and mentored many generations of physicians and nurses.

Balancing family and professional obligations, Dr Lyddy also served as a valuable member of the community and church. He was an accomplished carpenter, avid golfer, loved sports and the Mets.

Funeral services were October 7. Interment with full military honors followed in St Michael’s Cemetery, Stratford.
