Cat Retrieved From Storm Drain

It is a story with a happy ending. Craig and Kerry Knop and 3-year-old son, Gavin, were feeling pretty discouraged when their much loved cat, Eddie McFreddy, disappeared on Sunday night from their Head of Meadow Road home. After searching, calling, and emailing neighbors, Ms Knop decided on Tuesday to hang fliers in the neighborhood.

As she and Gavin left to post the fliers, Ms Knop decided to call Eddie McFreddy one last time. “After calling his name for the tenth time,” she said, “I heard a very sad ‘meow.’ I continued to call him as my son and I walked toward the ‘meow.’”  The plaintive cry seemed to move as they followed it.

“Finally, we located the sound,” she said. The cat was in a storm drain, skinny and sad.

While Ms Knop and Gavin waited for the police to arrive and help free Eddie McFreddy, neighbor Ryan Lyddy opened the drain with an ax.

When police arrived, Officer John McDermott and Mr Lyddy lifted the heavy drain cover, Ms Knop slipped into the hole, and the frightened kitty was retrieved. “We are so happy to have our family member back and are grateful to have a wonderful neighbor and police department,” said Ms Knop.
