Rep Shea Tours Newtown Firm
State Representative Pat Shea, R-Monroe, last week visited Intermed Video Technologies, Inc. â National Video Services of Newtown as part of a statewide event sponsored by the Connecticut Business and Industry Association to promote Connecticut as a good place to do business.
National Video Services was incorporated in 1977. It provides sales, consulting, and engineering and repair services for the professional television industry. The company also supplies the US military with specialized video equipment. Intermed Video Technologies was incorporated in 1990 as another section of the firm. It provides specialized image recorders and accessories for the medical industry.
After touring the facility, Rep Shea met with Jay Mongillo, the companyâs applications specialist, and Harry Davies, its treasurer.
âI was very impressed with the company and the people who work there,â said Rep Shea, who represents Monroe and part of Newtown. âIt is an excellent example of the kind of small to medium sized high tech companies that will be providing most of the new jobs in Connecticut in the years ahead.â
âTheir main problem is finding and keeping the highly skilled employees they need to provide the services they offer and to fabricate the products they sell,â Rep Shea said. âThe demand for people with these kinds of technical skills is high. Because there is a shortage of individuals with the qualifications the company is looking for, those who are available demand high salaries and there is a lot of turnover.â
âWe need to encourage more young people to consider careers in high-tech manufacturing and related fields if we are to compete successfully with other states in attracting these kinds of companies to Connecticut,â she said.
