Raphaele ‘Ray’ M. Hacker

The death of Raphaele “Ray” M. Hacker, 80, of Deer Hill Avenue, Danbury, occurred at her home October 5. She was the wife of the late Alfred A. Hacker.

She was the mother of Janis Sajovic of Newtown.

Born in New York, N.Y., April 2, 1920, daughter of the late Mauro and Maria (Croce) Maiorino, she attended New York schools.

Mrs Hacker lived in Valley Stream, Long Island, N.Y., for 47 years, moving to Danbury three years ago.

As a young woman she had been employed at Hearnes Department Store in New York as an elevator operator. Her later life was devoted to her home and family. She was a member of St Mary Church in Valley Stream and St Peter in Danbury.

She is also survived by a son, Robert A. Hacker of Bridgewater; one sister, Phyllis Basile of Cooperstown, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Jennifer Ann Gattie, Jaclyn Hacker, Megan Allyn Sajovic and Nicholas Anthony Sajovic; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Cottage Street, Danbury, on October 9. Interment was in Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, L.I., N.Y.

Contributions in her memory may be made to Father Flanagan’s Boys Town.
