Nighthawk Runners Race Settlers Park Course

Newtown High School’s cross country teams visited Southbury’s Settlers Course to take on host Pomperaug along with Masuk of Monroe and Notre Dame-Fairfield on October 1.

The girls defeated Masuk 17-38, topped Notre Dame 15-50, and lost 20-41 to Pomperaug. The boys defeated Masuk 25-35, beat Notre Dame 19-43, and lost 15-45 to Pomperaug.

In the girls’ race, Newtown’s top finisher was Natalie McLean, placing second in 19:27.70 behind race winner Madelyn Mariani of Pomperaug who clocked in at 19:23.60. Pomperaug had four of the top five finishers and eight among the top ten. Newtown’s Annabelle Foley placed sixth in 21:00.60; Jessie Moore was 11th in 22:52.90, Claire DiNoto 13th in 22:56.70, Nadia Andrew 14th in 22:57.20, and Britta Petersen came in 15th in 22:57.90. Alexia Young came in 17th in 23:11.90.

For the boys Pomperaug earned the top three spots led by race winner Robert Piccirillo in 16:56.70. Newtown’s top finisher was Stephen Sibley in eighth with a time of 17:56.30. Brian Sibley was tenth in 18:21.70, Orion Lowery 12th in 18:37.40, Ubay Dissa 14th in 18:39.00, Sebastian Colburn 15th in 18:58.60, Aarav Shetty 18th in 19:29.30, and Trevor Saunders 21st in 19:49.20.
