William Anthony Ahern
William Anthony Ahern, 91, of Milford, beloved husband of Doris Dery Ahern, died October 7 in Connecticut Hospice, surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 1, 1923, in Bridgeport, and was the son of the late William and Claire Haffey Ahern.
Mr Ahern was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in England and then in France on D-Day.
He attended Bassick High School, graduated from the New Haven Culinary School, and retired as head chef at Buckingham Gardens, Newtown.
He enjoyed the casino, traveling, and spending time with his family.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of 60 years, include two devoted daughters, Carey Schierloh, and husband Ed, of Sandy Hook and Maureen Wozniak, and husband Marty, of Hamden; four cherished grandchildren, Kristin Moser, and husband Justin, Timothy Schierloh, and wife Stephanie, and Matthew and Daniel Schierloh; two great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Paul Dery; and many nieces and nephews. His brothers James, Robert, and Richard Ahern and sister Ruth Serke predeceased Mr Ahern.
Funeral services will take place Saturday, October 11, at 10 am, meeting directly in St Andrew Church, 435 Anton Street, Bridgeport, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment with military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, St Monica Mausoleum. Friends may call Friday, October 10, from 5 to 7 pm, in the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull.
