Rep Hovey Appointed To Education Task Force
State Representative DebraLee Hovey (R-112) has been appointed to serve on the recently created Task Force to Study Individualized Education Programs. The panel was created during the 2010 legislative session, and Rep Hovey has been appointed by House Republicans Leader Lawrence F. Cafero, Jr.
The task force will examine the existing processes and procedures for the development and administration of individualized educational programs, examine relevant federal laws and propose legislation that codifies such federal laws into state law, reevaluate existing individualized educational programs under federal law standards, examine the training required for personnel administering individualized educational programs, and to develop ways in which such training can be included in professional development for certified employees.
The task force is also charged with developing a program for the auditing of individualized educational programs at the district level, and examining ways in which to address issues of noncompliance by personnel and districts in the administration of individualized educational programs.
âI am honored to serve on this committee, and I thank the Minority Leader for his trust in my ability to do this important work,â said Rep Hovey. âI hope that my more than 30 years of experience working with learning divergent individuals under PL94-142 will serve the children and families of our state well.â
