Best Guard & Best Overall Effect
Performing along with 49 other high school marching bands, the Newtown Marching Band & Guard christened the New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., on Saturday, October 2, with the new facilityâs first United States Scholastic Band Association competition.
The Newtown High School band and color guard and came away with the Best Color Guard and Best Overall Effect honors captions in their division, while narrowly missing first place in Division V Open Class by .298 points.
The Yamaha Cup competition was the third show of the fall season for the 117-member NHS Marching Band & Guard, and friends, family, and judges who had traveled to New Jersey for the event that featured high schools from across the Northeast.
Newtownâs score of 78.475 bested four other Division V schools.
This year the group is made up primarily of NHS freshmen and sophomores.
This weekend, the Newtown Marching Band & Guard will be in New Milford to compete in a Musical Arts Conference (MAC) show at New Milford High School. The October 9 competition will begin at 5:30, and Newtown is scheduled to perform at 8:30 sharp.
