Landscape Demo By Frank Bruckmanm, Just Returned

From Maine, At Next SCAN Meeting

The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown will have Frank Bruckmann painting a landscape in oil on Wednesday, October 13, at 7:30 pm. The free demonstration will take place at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). The public is invited, free of charge.

Mr Bruckmann spent this past winter, spring, and part of summer living on Monhegan Island, located off mid coastal Maine. Monhegan is an island ten miles of f coast that has drawn artists since the mid 19th Century. The retreat was an excellent time to experience  the famous and well painted isle during the off season.

Mr Bruckmann and his family had a chance to get to know better the local community of only 50 people, and to understand what life is like in a small lobstering community with a one-room schoolhouse.

Mr Bruckmann found endless subject matter to paint, as the changing seasons offered such abundant variety. Having months to paint on the island instead of his typical two to five weeks, Mr Bruckmann started to revisit paintings on site and work them over on many days to build up the texture and attempt to capture a mood, or particular time of day.  Painting primarily en plein air, he then used various photos to refine or detail many of his paintings in the studio.

Examples of Mr Bruckman’s artwork can be seen at FBruckmann.com. A journal from his experiences with his family on the island can be found at MonheganSojourn.blogspot.com.

Registration is not necessary to attend SCAN programs, but additional information is available from Ruth Newquist; telephone 203-426-6654.
