How To Maintain Your Sanity

Despite Your Kids

SOUTHBURY — Insight and wisdom come with years of experience, and speaker Norm Bossio has a remarkable way of sharing his while enlightening and motivating parents and caregivers who face parenting with the challenges of today’s world. On Tuesday, October 19, at 7 pm, Mr Bossio will speak at Pomperaug High School, 238 Judd Road.

Sponsored by the Newtown Parent Connection and SMART — Southbury & Middlebury Acting Responsibly Together, the forum will inspire, empower, and entertain as Mr Bossio imparts the secrets to successful parenting.

His topics include tips on putting family first, talking to teens, and staying motivated. The author of How to Stay Motivated on the Deck of the Titanic, Mr Bossio uses humor to describe the sinking, loss of control, and helplessness that often characterize family life. He is credited with inspiring his audiences and providing them with tools to be more effective parents.

Like Newtown’s Parent Connection, SMART is a grassroots, pending nonprofit organization that was established as awareness was raised regarding the level of substance abuse and school safety issues, which were highlighted at a Board of Education Meeting late last spring. The group is open to all concerned citizens, parents, students, and community leaders.

SMART’s mission is to prevent substance abuse and create a safe and supportive environment through community education, collaboration and empowerment. SMART partnered with Newtown Parent Connection in sponsoring the widely attended Dare to Discuss Drugs forum held in June, featuring speaker John Hamilton.

In addition to collaborating with Region 15’s Local Prevention Council (LPC), SMART has been working closely with the Newtown Parent Connection, a grassroots organization established in 1993 by concerned parents, to address the problem of substance use and abuse among young people in the Newtown community.
