Columbus Day Weekend Book Sale

DANBURY — The Friends of the Danbury Library will hold their annual book sale over the Columbus Day weekend (October 9-11) at the Police Activities League (PAL) Building, 35 Hayestown Road.

Over 80,000 items will be for sale. More than 60 categories will feature fiction, antiques and biographies to cooking, foreign languages, sports and more, including a large selection of children’s books in hard and soft covers.

CDs, DVDs, videos and audiobooks will also be for sale.

The extensive collectibles department will includes autographed books by John Cheever, Henry Kissinger and Ruth Stout, among others; an 1891 World Atlas; Personal Recollections of Abraham Lincoln, a four-volume set published in 1898; Messages of President Lincoln and the 37th Congress and a 1903 Gibson Girl illustrated calendar among its offering

Coffee table books will all be $5 each.

Most other books will be $2 for hard covers and large paperbacks, $3 per CD and DVD, and 50 cents for small paperbacks.  Children’s books are priced at 50 cents and $1. The books in the Collectibles department will be priced as marked.

Admission is Saturday, October 9, will be $10 between 8 and 9 am only (Friends of the Library members will be free); early admission tickets will be issued beginning at 7 am.

Admission the rest of the weekend is free. The sale will continue on Saturday until 5 pm, and then run from 10 am until 4 pm on Sunday, when books are half price; and 9 am to 1 pm on Monday, when books are $5 per bag.

The Friends of the Danbury Library book sale began in 1978. It has grown into a three-day fundraiser to secure funding to benefit a variety of programs and services at the library. The sale is organized and supported by over 100 dedicated volunteers, some of whom work year round preparing for the book sale weekend.
