A Pair Of PanCAN Events October 9

On Saturday, October 9, the PurpleStride Danbury 2010 Committee will host a Zumbathon for pancreatic cancer awareness. The event will take place at the Edmond Town Hall gym, 45 Main Street, and is open to the public.

Registration will begin at 3 pm and Zumba will be from 3:30 to 5 pm. Requested donation is $15 per person, and all proceeds will go to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN).

PurpleStride Danbury was formed by four local women — Kristen Angell, Julie Dunn, Ellen Klaus and Karen Rowe — in memory of loved ones they have lost to pancreatic cancer. In November 2009 they held this area’s first walk for pancreatic cancer awareness. Paula Cardinale of Danbury was honorary chair and continues to be the women’s inspiration as she courageously battles this cancer.

PurpleStride Danbury 2010 will hold its 2nd Annual Walk on Sunday, November 7, at the Danbury Fair Mall. Registration begins at 7 am, and opening ceremonies at 8:30, followed by a 2.5-mile walk/run.

Registration and/or donations can be made through PurpleStride.org.

Sounds For Stride

In addition, Ms Angell is coordinating “Sounds For Stride,” a four-hour live music event to take place Saturday, October 9, at Sandy Hook Park, 5 Glen Road in Sandy Hook Center.

Featured performers will be ZTrain, a band that specializes in reggae but is very proficient at hip hop, R&B, and funk. Opening bands include The Brian Harrington Quartet, QGM Crew, After Three Seconds and The Screw-Ups. Requested donation is $10 per person, and all proceeds will go to PanCAN’s PurpleStride Danbury 2010.

Gates open at noon, with the music to begin at 1. Food from Chao Chi American Eatery & Bar will be available for purchase, as will nonalcoholic beverages. Door prizes will also be given out during the afternoon.

For additional information or to volunteer contact Ms Angell at 203-792-2405 or KAngell@PanCanVolunteer.org
