*A final reminder this week that Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s (PanCAN) PurpleStride Danbury, in collaboration with QPID Productions, will present “Sounds For Stride,” an afternoon and early evening music event that will also raise funds for PanCAN. The event will take place this weekend, on Saturday, October 9, from 1 to 5 pm, at Sandy Hook Park, 5 Glen Road in Sandy Hook Center.

Featured performers will be ZTRAIN, offering their first performance in Connecticut. The band was formerly known as VOG (Voice Of the Ghetto), but remains is a very diverse musical group. Members have with roots from different races, cultures, creeds and ethnicities.

The band specializes in reggae but is very proficient in hip hop, r&b and funk. ZTrain performs a mix of carefully selected covers by artists as varied as Alicia Keys, James Brown, John Mayer and The Eagles to Jay-Z, the Marleys, Beres Hammond and Maxi Priest (among others ), as well as their own originals.from various artists as well as originals.

Opening bands include THE BRIAN HARRINGTON QUARTET, QGM CREW, AFTER THREE SECONDS and THE SCREW UPS.

Requested donation is $10 per person, and all proceeds will Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s PurpleStride Danbury 2010.

Gates open at noon, with the music to begin at 1. Food from Chao Chi American Eatery & Bar will be available for purchase, as will non-alcoholic beverages. Door prizes will also be given out during the afternoon.

This is an outdoor event; rain date TBD.

*Due to a scheduling error, THE ADULTS will not be performing next weekend at The Cookhouse in New Milford after all.

Meanwhile, the band will be at Redding Roadhouse on Thursday, August 14; and then the guys will be over at Proud Mary’s at The Inn at Newtown on Friday, October 22.

*Also this week comes a reminder that OLD SCHOOL (Tony Summo and Lou Bellofatto) will be at Proud Mary’s this weekend and again later in the month. The guys will be at the lounge at The Inn at Newtown on Fridays, October 8 and 29.

*THE WAY-BACK MACHINE will be playing music of the 60s and 70s at The One-Eyed Pig next weekend.

Showtime for Saturday, October 16, will be 9:30 pm. The Pig is at 71 Main Street South in Newtown.

*The Tuesday Open Mic @ 59 Bank Street will host the first in a series of benefits for local non-profit organizations on Tuesday, October 19, at 7:30 pm. Hosted by Chis Ellis, Open Mic @ 59 Bank bills itself as New Milford’s only showcase for musicians doing their own original material as well as performers covering other people’s songs.

There’s never a cover charge and 59 Bank is also running dinner and drink specials on Tuesday nights.

The October 19 benefit is for the Village Center for the Arts’s Club Mud Scholarship Program, and will feature music by DON LOWE, THE PEARS, THE BLUE YODELS and others, with Chris Ellis serving at the evening’s host. There will also be 50-50 raffles, a Chinese auction and local artists’ artwork for sale.
