‘EARTHLY MATTERS’ OPENS OCT. 13 AT BACHELIER CARDONSKY GALLERY

avv/gs set 10/8 #714995

KENT, CONN. — The Bachelier Cardonsky Gallery will present the exhibition “Earthly Matters,” featuring the sculpture of Joy Brown, along with paintings by three other artists: Kathryn Frund, Joan Griswold and Nora Sturges. An opening reception will be Saturday, October 13, from 3 to 5 pm; the show continuing to November 11.

Brown’s clay people have emerged again from her Connecticut kiln, bursting with emotion and heart-felt humor. With 30 years of shows in the United States, Europe and Asia, Brown continues to surprise.

Frund’s landscapes are painted on wood panels and collaged with old property deeds and surveys that connect one to the land she depicts. Her textural, abstracted paintings are meditations on nature, mindful of the past and present.

Griswold is a painter from Massachusetts with many shows and awards since 1986. Her inviting interiors have been described as “portraits without people,” as they feel to have been occupied only moments before.

Sturges paints small scenes that stretch beyond the limits of reality. They are poetic and surreal, dreamlike with odd juxtapositions. Sturges has had many shows in Connecticut and in Baltimore, Md., where she lives.

The Bachelier Cardonsky Gallery is on Main Street. For information, call Violaine Bachelier or Darby Cardonsky at 860-927-3129 or view  www.bacheliercardonsky.com.
