A large fireplace was the centerpiece of the lounge in the Sunset Tavern on Currituck Road in this copy of a 1930s postcard. A Way We Were photograph that appeared in the August 13 issue has been identified. George Clark, a former resident who now lives in California, telephoned publisher Scudder Smith recently to say that the 1936 photograph of a Boy Scout flag ceremony was taken in Sandy Hook on the lawn of a house owned by Clarett Bassett. Mr Clark believes the scoutmaster pictured was Paul Cullens. The building that appeared to be behind the house was Dick Brophy’s blacksmith shop, according to Mr Clark.
