Box Truck Hits Utility Pole

Newtown Police report Tara Whyte, 38, of Stratford, operating a 2018 HINO 195 box truck, was negotiating a curve in the roadway while traveling northbound on Swamp Road at 8:43 am September 9. Whyte’s vehicle drove off the right side of the roadway and the left side of the vehicle collided with a utility pole.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact the Newtown Police Department at 203-426-5841.

Man Sent To Hospital Following Mystery Collision

Newtown Police report that officers were dispatched to the area of Wasserman Way and Interstate 84 exit 11 on the report of a vehicle with front end damage and a driver complaining of chest pain called in by a passerby at 6:45 am September 16.

Upon arrival, the officer said Newtown ambulance personnel were speaking with Michael Mahoney, 93, of Bridgeport, who had been operating a 2020 Toyota Camry with heavy front end damage parked on the side of Wasserman Way. The officer said Mahoney appeared confused and was complaining of chest and back pain. Mahoney did not know where he crashed his vehicle, and further questioning of Mahoney did not make much sense, according to the officer.

Mahoney was transferred to Danbury Hospital for further care and evaluation. The officer could not locate any accident scene along Mahoney’s likely routes and closed the incident report due to lack of further information.

The vehicle was towed.

Harassment, Stalking Charges

Newtown Police report in January 2024, a victim contacted the Newtown Police Department regarding harassing text messages and pictures that were sent to the victim and the victim’s family members from a number of different VOIP phone numbers. The Newtown Police Department Patrol Division conducted a thorough investigation into the complaint, and determined the messages were sent by Bryan Czel, 31, of Newtown. A warrant was issued for Czel’s arrest, and Czel turned himself in on September 20.

Czel was charged with electronic stalking, four counts of second-degree harassment, two counts of coercion, and obscenity.

Czel was released with a court date of October 8 in Danbury Superior Court.

Failure To Grant Right Of Way

Newtown Police report Carlyle Nelson, 68, of Newtown, operating a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox, was traveling northbound on Mt Pleasant Road and made a left turn at 1:45 pm September 21. Bianca Izzo, 41, of Brookfield, operating a 2018 BMW X1, was traveling southbound on Mt Pleasant Road. Izzo’s vehicle struck Nelson’s as Nelson made the turn.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Nelson was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way.

Hit And Run Likely Unintentional

Newtown Police report a 2016 Toyota Highlander owned by Manuel Paguay of Danbury was parked in a parking spot at 228 South Main Street at 1:22 pm September 22. An unidentified black sedan was filmed by a passenger occupying the Highlander backing into the vehicle and then leaving the scene. Police believe that due to the minor damage, it is likely the other driver did not realize the collision occurred.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

The incident is closed pending further information on the other vehicle.

Struck Deer

Newtown Police report Duc Vo, 50, of Bridgeport, operating a 2010 Acura TI, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 7:01 pm September 23. A deer ran into the road and into Vo’s vehicle.

Vo was not injured. The vehicle was not towed. The officer dispatched the injured deer.

Rear Ended On Glen Road

Newtown Police report Elizabeth Goerg, 44, of Woodbury, operating a 2003 Chevrolet Impala, was traveling southbound on Glen Road at 7:43 am September 25. She was traveling behind a 2017 Toyota Rav4 operated by Michele Flowers, 51, of Waterbury. Flowers came to a stop for a line of stopped traffic and Goerg did not stop in time, rear-ending Flowers’ vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Goerg was issued an infraction for operating an unregistered motor vehicle and a verbal warning for traveling an unreasonable distance apart.

Unlicensed Driver Makes Improper Turn

Newtown Police report Tiago Bicalho, 50, of Danbury, operating a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan, was traveling east on Berkshire Road at 9:03 am September 26. Roberto Cintron, 41, of Stratford, operating a 2014 Honda Accord, was traveling northbound on Jordan Hill Road and came to a stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Berkshire Road. Bicalho made a right onto Jordan Hill Road and struck Cintron’s stopped vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Bicalho was issued an infraction for making an improper turn and operating a motor vehicle without a license.

Backed Into Vehicle

Newtown Police report Charles Framularo, 76, of Newtown, operating a 2002 Honda Accord, was backing into a handicapped spot at the CH Booth Library at 1:04 pm September 26. While backing, he struck an unoccupied 2006 Volvo S60 owned by Dorothea Obyrne.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

NHS Collision

Newtown Police report Lucas Pinto, 18, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2017 Volkswagen Golf, was traveling in the parking lot of Newtown High School at 2:52 pm September 26. He was traveling behind a 2017 BMW X5 operated by Ellenoire Schoen, 17, of Newtown. Schoen came to a stop in traffic for the stop sign and crossing guard guidance. Pinto rear-ended her vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Pinto, a new driver, was unaware of procedure in a motor vehicle crash and continued home, telling his father. His father immediately reported to police. No enforcement action was taken.

Arrested After DUI, Evading Attempt

Newtown Police report that officers were dispatched to the area of 123 South Main Street at 4:48 pm September 28 on the report of a pickup truck driving recklessly in the parking lot. The caller told police the truck had left the parking lot and was traveling toward the flagpole at a high rate of speed.

Officers located the vehicle traveling at an extremely high rate of speed. The truck accelerated away from police, burning out his tires as he turned. The officer lost sight of the truck in the area of Borough and South Main Street. Upon checking Mile Hill Road and Queen Street, officers located a two car motor vehicle accident with injuries.

The driver, later identified as Adrian Ajdinoski, 25, of Shelton, then fled the scene on foot. Officers located Ajdinoski in the woods and took him into custody, charging him with failure to renew registration, illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under suspension, reckless driving, engaging police in pursuit, evading responsibility for physical injury, evading responsibility for property damage, illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, failure to obey a stop sign, failure to notify the DMV of a change in address on license, and interfering with an officer/resisting arrest.

He was released on a $25,000 bond with a court date of October 8 in Danbury Superior Court.
