Frances M. Van Wart

Frances M. Van Wart, 94, of Sandy Hook died peacefully at Danbury Hospital, October 1, with her loving daughters at her bedside.

She resided in Bridgeport most of her life. She worked for General Electric in Bridgeport, where she met her husband. She also was a seamstress at Joseph’s Cleaners in Bridgeport, a riveter at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford, and a head bank teller in Trumbull before retiring.

She was known in this community for her knitting and crocheting skills, for making prayer shawls for St Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, and lap robes and blankets for Newtown Senior Center.

Mrs Van Wart was a generous and caring woman who loved her family and helping others.

Her three daughters, Barbara Wallenta, Cynthia Fulton, and Beverly Studer; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren survive Mrs Van Wart. Her husband Walter C. Van Wart; parents Margaret and Peter Kizevich; her sister Anna Shatinsky; and a granddaughter Dawn Mead predeceased her.

Calling hours are Monday, October 7, from 5 to 7 pm, at Carpino's Funeral Home, 750 Main Street South, Southbury,  with a service Tuesday morning, October 8, at the funeral home, at 9 . A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown, Tuesday, at 10 am. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, 620 Lindley Street, in Bridgeport.
