The Fourth Annual Turkey Trot 5K Road Race, in support of C.H. Booth Library, will be held on Thanksgiving morning, November 28, at 7:45 am.

The course remains the same as last year’s with a start at Hawley Elementary School, a downhill stretch on Main Street past the flagpole, and the finish at Newtown Middle School. A steep hill on Schoolhouse Road at the start of the course and another long hill on Grand Place at the end of the course will guarantee that all runners will earn their stuffing on Thanksgiving Day.

Runners will leave from the parking lot of Hawley School, at 49 Church Hill Road, and run northeast toward The Boulevard. They will turn left onto The Boulevard, then left onto Schoolhouse Hill Road, left onto Hanover to run behind the Soldier & Sailors Monument, left onto Main Street to Glover Avenue, right onto Meadow Road, left onto Elizabeth Street, left onto Queen Street; right onto Grand Place, covering the full length of Grand Place before returning to Queen Street; right onto Queen, and into the parking lot of Newtown Middle School.

In addition to the 5K race, there will be a 2 kilometer walk. Walkers will have the same start and stop points, but will turn off Schoolhouse onto Wendover Road and then make their way to the middle school.

Advance registration is $25 for runners and $20 for walkers. All runners and walkers receive a T-shirt with their registration. The race is capped at 1,000 runners and 250 walkers.

Last year, the 5K sold out, so organizers encourage early registration. Online registration information may be found at www.newtownturkeytrot.com

Runners who have participated in the Rooster Run, the Labor Day Road Race, and the Turkey Trot will be eligible for special recognition for lowest combined times.

New features for this year’s race include long-sleeved T-shirts and a new start design. The start will include corrals so that runners may self-seed according to their pace.

The Fourth Annual Turkey Trot course will take runners from Hawley School on Church Hill Road around a counter-clockwise course in the center of town on Thanksgiving morning. Walkers will also work their way through the center of Newtown, turning off Schoolhouse Hill Road (unmarked) and heading south toward Church Hill Road. Both courses will end at Newtown Middle School on Queen Street.
