Signs Damaged

Police report that at about 10:15 am on September 30, an unknown person driving a dump truck damaged a stop sign and a street sign located at the intersection of Barnabas Road and Hawleyville Road in Hawleyville. Police are investigating the property damage and ask anyone who knows the identity of the dump truck driver to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Schoolhouse Hill Road

At about 11:30 am on September 30, police said that while using radar equipment, they determined that motorist Ryan Pineau, 21, of 47 Waterview Drive was driving 50 miles per hour in a posted 25-mph zone on westbound Schoolhouse Hill Road, near its intersection with Teachers Ridge Road.

Police said they stopped Pineau to investigate, after which they charged him with traveling unreasonably fast, driving an unregistered vehicle, and failure to have automotive insurance.

Pineau was released on a written promise to appear on October 13 in Danbury Superior Court, police said.

Vandalism

Police report they are investigating incidents that occurred on late September 28 and/or early September 29, in which someone intentionally damaged curbside residential mailboxes in the Shut Road/Brookwood Drive area. Both streets extend from Poor House Road, near the Bethel town line. Anyone with information on the criminal mischief is asked to contact police at 203-426-5841.

Rollover Crash

About 2:22 pm on September 29, motorist Shamar Knox, 20, of New Haven was driving a 1992 Toyota Tercel coupe westward on a wet Berkshire Road (Route 34), east of its intersection with Sherman Street, when Knox lost control of the auto, police said.

The Toyota skidded across the roadway, struck some metal-beam guardrailing, crossed back over the road, struck a rock and then rolled over onto its roof on the westbound travel lane, police said.

Knox was able to get out of the overturned Toyota on his own, police report.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members transported Knox to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, according to police.

State Department of Transportation workers were at the scene of the accident before police arrived and aided at the crash scene, police said. Sandy Hook volunteer firefighters responded to the incident.

Police said Knox received an infraction for failure to drive to the right.

Audi Off Road

Motorist David Kreshpan, Jr, 18, of 49-A High Rock Road was driving a 2003 Audi A-4 sedan northward on New Lebbon Road about 1:30 am on October 2, when the Audi drove past a stop sign at New Lebbon Road’s intersection with High Rock Road, police report.

The Audi crossed High Rock Road and then struck some bushes and rocks, police said. Kreshpan was not injured. Police said they issued him an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign.

Gas Station

Police report they investigated an accident between two vehicles that occurred about 7:45 pm September 29 at the Shell gas station at 286 South Main Street.

The accident involved motorist Jessica Kunz, 28, of Danbury, who was driving a 1998 Volkswagen Jetta sedan, and motorist Lorissa Lippi, 20, of 1 Blue Spruce Drive, who was driving a 2004 Jeep Liberty SUV, police said.

There were no injuries. Police charged Kunz with driving with a suspended license. Police said Kunz is scheduled to appear on October 14 in Danbury Superior Court.

Highway Crash

Motorist James Gustavson, 24, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2003 Subaru Forester, entered the Exit 10 on-ramp for westbound Interstate 84 at about 3:20 pm on September 30, and then reached the highway, after which he lost control of the auto, swerved and spun around, and struck an embankment along the right road shoulder, state police said.

Gustavson was not injured. Enforcement information was not available.

Interstate Collision

Motorist Alexander Brand, 43, of Astoria, N.Y., who was driving a 2011 GMC vehicle westward on Interstate 84, about 500 feet west of the Exit 9 on-ramp at about 9:30 am on September 30, slowed for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by westbound motorist Matthew Peters, 20, of Monroe, who was driving a 2005 Nissan Altima sedan, state police report.

Brand was transported to Danbury Hospital to be checked for injuries, state police said. Enforcement information was not available.

Intersection Accident

State police report that at about 4:15 pm on September 26, motorist Arthur Bauer, 64, of 64 Glen Road, who was driving an 2010 Dodge Charger sedan, stopped at a red traffic signal at the end of the eastbound Interstate 84 Exit 10 off-ramp in preparing to make a left turn onto Church Hill Road.

Motorist Lauren Lindsay, 26, of Southbury, who was driving a 2001 Ford Explorer SUV, also was traveling on the off-ramp, state police said.

While at the intersection of the off-ramp and Church Hill Road, the Dodge and Ford made contact, causing minor damage to both vehicles, according to state police. There were no injuries.

The drivers provided conflicting accounts of the accident, and thus fault for the accident could not be determined, state police said.

Main Street Crosswalk

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Main Street at the crosswalk near Edmond Town Hall about 6 pm on September 29.

Motorist Moreen Donahue, 65, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2006 Lexus RX-400-H SUV southward on Main Street, stopped at the crosswalk to allow pedestrians there to cross the street, police said.

Southbound motorist Richard Schneiderman, 55, of 4 Sutherland Drive, who was driving a 1999 Honda Accord sedan, then struck the rear end of the Lexus, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Schneiderman an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Property Damage

Sometime between 3 pm on October 1, and 9:50 am on October 2, someone vandalized multiple curbside residential mailboxes in the area of Oak Ridge Road and Eden Hill Road, police report. Both streets extend from Hattertown Road. Officer John McCluskey is investigating the vandalism and asks anyone with knowledge of the crimes to contact him at the police station at 203-426-5841.

DUI Arrest

Police report that at about 6:30 pm on September 30, they spotted motorist Matthew Titus, 22, of Oakville driving 50 miles per hour in a posted 30-mph zone on Wasserman Way, near Trades Lane.

 Police said they stopped Titus to investigate, after which they charged him with driving under the influence and with traveling too fast.

After processing, Titus was released from custody on $100 bail for an October 13 appearance in Danbury Superior Court, according to police.

Three Charges

At about 9:25 pm on October 2, police received a complaint concerning an alleged theft that had occurred at an industrial property on High Bridge Road, near the Monroe town line.

Police said they investigated and found that Christina Brague, 37, of 24 Toddy Hill Road had been in possession of some scrap metal allegedly taken from the industrial property.

Police said they charged Brague with sixth-degree larceny, criminal trespassing, and misuse of marker plates. After processing, police released Brague on $500 bail for an October 18 court appearance.

SUV Rollover

Police said that motorist Malita Meade, 30, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV in wet conditions westward on Wasserman Way, near its intersection with Mile Hill Road South, at about 5:10 pm on September 28, went into a skid and then rolled over, landing upside down along the right side of the road after striking a chain-link fence.

Neither Meade nor a passenger were injured. Police said Meade received an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions. (A photo of this accident was published in the September 30, 2011, edition of The Bee).

SUV Accident

About 10:30 pm on September 29, a 1996 GMC Jimmy SUV driven by motorist Conor Carty, 18, of Trumbull, went out of control near 86 Main Street, spun around and then struck some curbing, police report.

Carty was not injured. Police issued Carty an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Rear-Ender

A two-car accident occurred at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Wasserman Way about 3 pm September 30.

Police report that motorist David Morgan, 50, of Monroe, who was driving a 2008 Audi A-4 sedan, stopped at the intersection for a traffic signal, after which the Audi was struck from behind by motorist Karsten Trillhaase, 65, of 6 Sutherland Drive, who was driving a 2002 Mercedes-Benz CLK 430 coupe.

There were no injuries. Trillhaase received a written warning for following too closely, police report.

Botsford Crash

Motorist Brian Murphy, 51, of Glastonbury, who was driving a 2006 Hyundai Sonata sedan, stopped at the intersection of South Main Street and Button Shop Road about 12:42 pm on September 30, and was then struck from behind by motorist Roberta Clonan, 86, of Southbury, who was driving a 1998 Toyota Camry sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said Clonan received a  written warning for following too closely.

Convertibles Collide

Police report a two-car accident near 151 South Main Street about 1:43 pm on September 30.

Motorist Gabrielle Rivera, 24, of Bridgeport was driving a 2002 Saab 93 convertible northward on South Main Street, police said.

At that time, motorist Rennis Easter, 61, of 57 Turkey Hill Road, who was driving a 1998 Chrysler Sebring convertible, was in the parking lot at 151 South Main Street and was waiting to make a left turn onto southbound South Main Street, police said.

A northbound noncontact vehicle, which was traveling in front of the Saab, then stopped to allow the Chrysler to make the left turn, police said.

As the Chrysler turned left and entered the southbound lane, the Saab was traveling northward in the southbound lane in attempting to pass the noncontact vehicle on the left, police said.

The Saab and the Chrysler collided, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said Rivera received an infraction for passing in a no-passing zone.

Double Rollover

State police report a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 84 about 8:40 pm on October 1 in which both vehicles rolled over after impact.

Motorist Valerea Arevelo, 17, of Danbury, who was driving a 1995 Honda Civic westward on I-84 about 4,000 feet east of Exit 9, swerved and then struck motorist Vihang Dholakia, 48, of 33 Charter Ridge Road, who was driving a 2010 Chrysler Town & Country minivan, state police said.

Both vehicles then left the pavement and overturned, state police said.

Newtown Ambulance Corps members transported Arevelo and Chrysler passenger Alpana Dholakia, 45, of 33 Charter Ridge Road to Danbury Hospital to be treated for minor injuries, state police said.

Newtown Hook & Ladder volunteer firefighters responded to the accident scene, officials said.

Enforcement information was not available.

Vehicular

Violations

Police report they charged a motorist with two violations following his involvement in a minor two-vehicle accident in Sandy Hook on the morning of October 4.

Police said they charged Dennis DeSouza, 28, of Danbury with driving with a suspended license and with failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. Police said they released DeSouza on $400 bail for an October 18 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Burglary/Larceny

Possibly sometime between 1 and 3:30 pm on October 4, someone entered a Cobblers Mill Road house and stole unspecified items from within the building, police said. The house is located near that street’s turnaround circle.

Police said they are investigating and ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident that occurred near the intersection of Old Stream Road and Orchard Hill Road about 11:20 am on October 5.

The accident involved Paul Hubina, 53, of 3 Sunset Hill Road, who was driving a 1991 International flatbed truck, and motorist Charlene Maring, 53, of 40 Cedar Hill Road, who was driving a 2009 Kia Sportage SUV, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Hubina for unsafe backing.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, William Bruno, 42, of 1 Borough Lane went to the police station on the afternoon of October 5 and was charged, police report. 

Police said they charged Bruno with second-degree failure to appear in court, misuse of a marker plate, driving an unregistered vehicle, failure to display a marker plate, and failure to carry a driver’s license.

Police said that they had initially charged Bruno with those four motor vehicle violations following a traffic stop that they made in July.

After he posted $400 bail, police released Bruno for an October 19 court appearance.
