Fore! ... Rock Ridge Crowns Ryder Cup Winners

Rock Ridge Country Club’s Ryder Cup tournament was held this past week and Team Black came away with first-place honors.

The Ryder Cup consisted of four ten-man teams playing four different formats throughout the weekend.

A delay of three hours due to rain on the first day did not stop Team Black from coming out of the gate strong, winning the first five matches over Team Navy. Not far behind was Team Grey winning three of five matches over Team Orange.

Team Navy turned it around in the second 9-hole match on day one, winning two matches over Team Grey, while Team Black continued to pull away, winning two, and halving one. At the end of the first day, Team Black was in the lead with 15 points, followed by Team Grey with 12, Team Orange with 9, and Team Navy with 4.

Day two consisted of the final two 9-hole matches; best ball and singles. Team Orange made the biggest jump, winning three of five matches to pull within one of second place Team Grey and four of Team Black.

It was still anyone’s game going into the single matches. Steady play from Team Black down the stretch gave it a total of 38 points, and leader in the clubhouse. Team Orange gave Team Black a run for its money, but fell 2.5 points short, making Team Black this year’s champions.
