To the Editor:

On September 24, we once again had a wonderful Health Fair at Newtown Middle School. It was our 12th annual! The weather was absolutely beautiful and we had a record number of exhibitors and visitors. The day was exceptional and it was due to the work of many, many hands. The utmost thanks go to Don Roos and Kevin Anzellotti and their crew at the middle school. Their dedication and hard work was extraordinary.

I want to thank all of the exhibitors and participants at the fair; they are truly a joy to work with. I also want to give a special thanks to our sponsors, Aqua Environmental Lab, Dr Bryson Filbert, Jr, Candlewood Valley Tent Company, Castle Hill Farm, Connecticut VNA, Marcus Dairy, Dr Charles Ray, the Chamber of Commerce, Dr David Nowacki, Dental Associates, Family Health Care Center, Dr Henry Gellert, World of Bikes, The Newtown Bee, Newtown Lion’s Club, Newtown Parks & Recreation, Newtown Savings Bank, Newtown Women’s Club, Robert Anthony’s, Stride Custom Orthotics, and Tres Jolie.

And a heartfelt thanks to the wonderful food service folks that always faithfully support us — Big Y, Carminuccio’s, Firehouse Bar & Grill, Franco’s, George’s Pizza, My Place, Pizza Palace, South Main Pizza, and the Villa. It is all of their support that makes such an event possible.

Thank you to all the firefighters, emergency personnel, and police; this town is so fortunate to have such dedicated and talented people looking out for them. It is so wonderful that in the trying times that we face, community events can bring us together, working together and having some good clean fun. And to all the residents, the fair’s attendees, thank you for coming, it is for you that we work to share all of the free health screenings and health and safety info to keep Newtown the great town that it is.

I also want to add a very heartfelt thank you to the Board of Health and our Health District staff (Maureen, Suzette, Mike, Ed and BJ, and Kevin) — all of their support, hard work, and senses of humor are invaluable and make the difference everyday. On behalf of the Health Fair Organizational Committee (Mae Schmidle, Dr Della Schmid, Judy Blanchard and myself), it was truly a pleasure and we’ll look forward to seeing you next year!!
