William Thomas White
William Thomas White, 94, a resident of Sandy Hook, died peacefully October 4 in Danbury Hospital. He was surrounded by his family, in a room filled with love. He was born October 5, 1920, in New York City, and was a son of the late Helen (Whalen) and John White.
Mr White was a veteran of the Army Air Force, and received his honorable discharge in 1946. He received his bachelor’s degree from St John’s University in 1949, and his MBA from New York University in 1952. He retired from a long career at IBM in 1986.
Mr White and his wife Norma (Fox) recently celebrated their 64th anniversary. They lived in Valley Stream, N.Y., before moving to Katonah, N.Y., and subsequently Sandy Hook.
He was a Civil War buff, a Yankee/Mets fan (yes, it does happen), a whiz with facts and figures, and a constant source of amazement to his children and grandchildren. To them, he was the smartest man in the world.
In addition to his wife, three daughters, Kathleen Ferguson, and her husband George, of Newtown, Betty Ross of Danbury, and Bridget White of Cape Cod, survive Mr White, as do three grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Casey, and Liam, who were a great source of joy to him.
Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, Wednesday, October 7, from 4 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, October 8, at 10:30 am, at St Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown. Interment will follow at St Rose Cemetery.
