To the Editor:

We would like to thank the wonderful community members and local businesses who were responsible for making our first ever chbMakers such a huge success. The passion, enthusiasm and knowledge you shared with our community was over the top and inspiring.  A big shout out to Nancy Gould and Jeff of The Sheep Shoppe for demonstrating the almost lost art of spinning; to author Linda Zemba Burhance for showing us how to arm knit; to Audrey Locorotondo for representing the many talented makers at Taunton Press; to Nicole Palmieri and Lucy Nevin for explaining the button maker process; to Ian Wilson for providing MakeyMakey fun; and to Ben Schmid-Tharnish for running the 3D printer.

We would also like to thank Paula Brinkman for organizing the colorful 3D puzzle mural and to all of you who taught workshops on a variety of interesting topics:  Bob Schroeder led a modular electronics class that will be continuing this fall; Katie Stevenson taught us needle felting; Kerry McKinley and Ken Moliver shared their knowledge of soldering and Valorie Delp let us experiment with electricity. We were also fortunate to have Juliana Miraldi teach us about toy photography and Jackson Harrington provide hands-on exposure to the beautiful art of origami. Many attendees enjoyed meeting Dave Corsi and other club members from Newtown High School’s 3D Printer Club and building structures and exploring ramps with Newtown’s EverWonder Museum was also a huge hit with the Makers. Thank you for all that you do to make our community such a special place.

We would also like to thank library staff for the extra support and time they put in before, during and after the open house and also for making and wearing blinkey robot pins.  Thank you again and see you at the next chbMakers event!

Sincerely,

Kim Weber
