Infectious Disease Expert From Yale Joins New Milford Hospital

NEW MILFORD — In an age of concern about possible pandemics and resistant strains of bacteria, infectious disease experts such as Dr Frederick Browne, a new physician on New Milford Hospital’s (NMH) staff, are a critical resource for any community. An infectious disease (ID) specialist has advanced training to diagnose and treat illnesses caused by microorganisms or germs, such as viruses or bacteria.

They often are consulted on the most challenging cases, such as persistent infections.

At NMH, Dr Browne is also the chairman of the infection control committee and while the hospital maintains a very low infection rate, he will help monitor the entire facility to prevent infections and continually strive to improve the infection control plan. His credentials include extensive work researching and combating resistant bacteria and improving infection control processes at academic medical centers.

Dr Browne, who is board certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases, joins NMH from Yale University where he completed fellowships in infectious diseases, microbiology and epidemiology, held a school of medicine faculty appointment, and was a graduate medical education committee member. He completed his residencies in internal medicine and anatomic/clinical pathology at Penn State Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Penn.

A graduate of the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine, Dr Browne also holds a cum laude bachelor’s degree in molecular and cellular biology, concentrating in microbiology and genetics, from the University of Connecticut at Storrs.

Dr Browne’s his office is located on the hospital’s third floor, allowing convenient availability for inpatient and outpatient consults. In his practice, he focuses on patients with complex infections and assists with the hospital’s emergency preparedness planning, some employee health issues, and works with the vice president of medical affairs on clinical quality improvement issues.
