Brubeck Quartet To Perform With Yale Camerata
NEW HAVEN â On Monday, October 9, in its first concert of the season, Yale Camerata, directed by Marguerite L. Brooks, will perform Dave Brubeckâs Pange Lingua with special guests The Dave Brubeck Quartet and full orchestra. Russell Gloyd will conduct. The concert will begin at 8 pm in Woolsey Hall, at the corner of College and Grove streets.
The quartet will present a traditional selection of jazz favorites as the first half of the program. The Gregorian chant-inspired Pange Lingua, part of a canon of sacred works composed by the celebrated jazz icon, will form the second half of the varied program.
Mr Brubeck is a legendary figure in contemporary jazz. Winner of numerous awards, including a National Medal of the Arts and a Lifetime Achievement Grammy, he has enjoyed an extensive and varied career as a performer, recording artist, and composer. He has appeared with many jazz luminaries, including Duke Ellington, Stan Getz, Louis Armstrong, and Carmen McRae, as well as with his own quartet. Perhaps best known for his secular jazz work, Mr Brubeck is also a prolific composer of sacred choral music.
Founded in 1985 by Ms Brooks, Yale Camerataâs approximately 60 singers are Yale graduate and undergraduate students, faculty, staff and experienced singers from the New Haven community. The vocal ensemble performs a wide spectrum of choral literature, with a special commitment to music of our time.
Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for students and seniors. For tickets call the Yale concert office at 203-432-4158 or visit Yale.edu/music.
