Understanding Family Histories

BROOKFIELD — Brookfield Historical Society is presenting a day-long genealogy workshop that will feature Janet Pestey, a member of Connecticut Society of Genealogies. The workshop will be held Saturday, October 28, from 10 am to 4 pm.

During the morning session participants will learn where and how to access Soundex, census, naturalization and passenger lists.

Following the lunch break, the program will shift to the use of the Internet and New England Historic genealogical records from 1847 to 1994. Additional records will include land records, the Social Security Death Index from 1937 to 1999, and passenger and immigration list indices from 1538 to 1940.

Cost for the workshop is $5 per person. Participants should bring their own bag lunch. For registration or additional information, call 740-8140.
